Detailed 6 Days Rwanda Safari Tour

Day 1: Morning excursion to Kigali city and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, the morning town meeting begins. On this half-day tour, you can visit the Gisozzi Genocide Memorial, the Presidential Palace Museum (where the wreckage of the FALCON 50 presidential plane is scattered), the Craft Center, the Natural History Museum, and more.

You will rest after lunch before heading to Volcanoes National Park, located 116 km from the city of Kigali, approximately 3 hours by car. The ride will allow you to admire the magical beauty of thousands of mountains before arriving at the volcano in the evening. You will have lunch on the way to Volcanoes National Park.

Recommended accommodation:

  • Hotel Gorilla Hill View
  • Palm Hotel
  • Muhabra Hotel
  • Meal plan: lunch and dinner

Day 2 of 6 Days Rwanda Safari Tour: Gorilla Trek

It has been a very busy but exciting day. You will need to get up earlier to plan yourself, eat lunch and bring plenty of water for a long walk. At 8.00 you must be at the park headquarters – for the briefing. They will give you a park ranger guide to help you find the gorillas. They assign you a gorilla family so you have to trek to find it and if there are special circumstances you can ask the ranger for special arrangements.

You travel to the lush vegetation of the volcano in search of gorillas. This trek is exciting as you cross the amazing landscape with bird watching and other wildlife crossings including monkeys, wild boars, and happy wild elephants. The trip lasts 2-8 hours and includes lunch as the gorillas are unpredictable. The sounds of the jungle will accompany you until the long-awaited moment of a face-to-face meeting with the gorillas.

You will see them foraging, socializing, and sometimes charging. The amazing state that overwhelms you can leave your camera roll with no room for other encounters. A full hour is enough to optimize the experience, after which you return to the starting point and drive back to your cabin to relax. If time permits, you can walk around the caves at night to learn about the construction of these natural houses, or you can visit the Iby’iwachu Cultural Village to learn about Banyarwanda culture.

Recommended accommodation:

  • Hotel Gorilla Hill View
  • Palm Hotel
  • Muhabra Hotel
  • Meal plan: full board

Day 3 of 6 Days Rwanda Safari Tour: Hike Dian Fossey and transfer to Lake Kivu

After breakfast, hike to the Diana Fossey Center to pay tribute to one of the world’s proudest gorilla keepers. An American primatologist advocates for the protection of the critically endangered mountain gorilla. The center of Karisoke is located in a terrain that includes relatively but less strenuous hikes. The elegance of the silver-baked fingers can also be seen in this center.

This operation lasts 3-4 hours. You will then return to the hotel to have lunch and then you will start your journey to Lake Kivu-Gisenyi which is 110 km away, about 2 hours by car. Upon arrival, join an evening cruise or relax on the beaches of Lake Kivu.

Recommended accommodation:

  • Lake Kivu Serena Hotel
  • Hotel Gorilla Lake Kivu
  • See Palm Resort
  • Malahide Castle
  • Meal plan: full board

Day 4 of 6 Days Rwanda Safari Tour: Drive to Nyungwe National Park

After breakfast, drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, which is 294 kilometers, approximately 6-7 hours drive. You will drive through the green hillsides of western Rwanda with a lunch stop along the way. Driving around Lake Kivu for most of this trip was one of the joys of this safari. Arrive in the afternoon, check into the hotel, relax, then have dinner and overnight.

Recommended accommodation:

  • Nyungwe Forest Lodge
  • Nyungwe Hilltop View Hotel
  • Gisakura Hotel
  • Meal plan: full board

Day 5 of 6 Days Rwanda Safari Tour: Chimpanzee Walk and Nyungwe Canopy Walk

After breakfast, the chimpanzee experience begins. It’s another exciting but exhausting day of your trip, so plan before you leave our room. Around. At 08:00 you will head to Nyungwe Mountain Forest, known as one of the few forests that survived the last ice age, in search of our closest human relative, the common chimpanzee.

The 2-5 hour trek is fun as it involves walking through the jungle, trekking through steep landscapes, and descending on the same terrain amongst birds and other wildlife including monkeys. When you meet the chimpanzees, you will be amazed by their clever strategies, how they pick fruits, swing on branches, socialize, and their general characteristics throughout the hour.

Afterward, you return to the cabin to rest. In the afternoon, take the rewarding Nyungwe Canopy Walk, which leads to views of the Nyungwe forest canopy teeming with birds and primates such as monkeys. The 90 m long and 40 m high Nyungwe canopy is an exciting experience on a Rwanda safari

Recommended accommodation:

  • Nyungwe Forest Lodge
  • Nyungwe Hilltop View Hotel
  • Gisakura Hotel
  • Meal plan: full board
